KITOVU HOSPITAL MEDICAL LABORATORY

1.0 Scope and Applicability

This laboratory is for testing all types of clinical specimens collected from both in-patient and outpatient departments for the purpose of disease diagnosis to guide clinicians in offering a quality service to the clients. The laboratory collects and receives clinical specimens including; blood smears, Urine, Whole blood, Swabs, Aspirates (CSF), Stool, Biopsy, DBS and Sputum. Recognizing that precision and accuracy of test results depend mostly on the pre-analytical procedures of sample collection, storage, and transportation of the specimens from the collection sites to the testing laboratory; hence this manual was developed to guide these processes.

The manual shall be used by and is applicable to all laboratory employees and all health service providers within Kitovu Health Care complex involved in routine collection of specimens to ensure the quality result of services.

2.0 Laboratory operation hours.

The laboratory is open 24 hour and seven days a week including all public holidays.
